WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University volleyball team continued its winning ways on Friday evening as the Eagles rolled past WVU Tech 3-0 in River States Conference play.
The Eagles took the match 25-16, 25-23, 25-18 to improve to 6-9 on the year. AU also moves back to .500 in league play with a 3-3 record overall.
AU jumped out in front early on in the first set and never looked back. The Golden Bears kept things close at 19-16 as the set moved along, but the Eagles would win the final six points to win the first set.
The second set was much tighter as WVU Tech held a 12-4 lead once things got underway. Asbury responded by winning 14 of the next 17 points to take a 18-15 lead. AU continued to roll, as a kill from
Lizzy Rempel sealed the second set at 25-23.
The Eagles dominated the final frame with 14 kills as their lead was never in danger.
Asbury dominated play up front at the net with a total of 11 blocks.
Bethany Fye recorded four block assists and two solo blocks in the sweep.
Hailey Jordan totaled three blocks and
Bethany Laue notched two blocks.
Senior
Lizzy Rempel also had a big night with a team-high 14 kills. Also getting in on the action up front was Jordan and
Julia Thompson, who both finished with 10 and nine kills respectively.
As a team, the Eagles collected 45 kills and posted a .278 hitting percentage.
Jordan led Asbury with 22 assists, while
Taegan Montgomery recorded 13.
Jessie Sandefur finished with 24 digs, as
Kandace Eligio and Montgomery each tallied 13 and nine as well.
Asbury is back in action tomorrow afternoon at home against Rio Grande at 1 PM.
