KOKOMO, Ind. – The Asbury University women's soccer team posted its second straight shutout victory with a 1-0 win at IU Kokomo on Thursday evening in River States Conference play.
For the year, Asbury is 4-8-1 overall, and now 3-1-1 in RSC play. The Eagles are currently in sole possession of third place in the league standings.
AU posted a total of 10 shots throughout the match, with five shots landing on-goal.
The match was scoreless after the first 45 minutes of action despite both teams getting several shot opportunities.
In the second half, Asbury broke the scoreless tie as
Sarah Rocco scored the game-winning goal in the 72
nd minute on Thursday to give the Eagles their fourth win of the season.
For the third straight game, the AU defense kept their opponent scoreless.
After Roccos' second goal of the year found the back of the net to give AU the 1-0 lead, the defense fended off a couple of more shots from the Cougars to hold on for the win.
Elizabeth Sparks registered a team-high four shots.
Georgia Clark and
Paige Miller both tallied two shot attempts apiece.
Jamie Downey picked up her second straight shutout as goalkeeper and also finished the contest with five saves.
Asbury will stay on the road with a big matchup at first-place IU East on Saturday afternoon at 1 PM.
