The Asbury University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced Scott Ferguson as the Head Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach on Friday, May 28.
In 2022 Coach Ferguson led Asbury once again to the NCCAA National Championship in Palm Coast, Fl. AU finished sixth of nine teams a year after taking the 2021 National Championship. Two second place finishes as a team and a Joao Costa first place finish at Cherokee Ridge Golf Club in Union Grove, Al., led the Asbury season.
Coach Ferguson led Asbury University to its first-ever National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championship in his first season as head coach in 2021. The AU men's golf team took the title at the Hammock Beach Resort Ocean Course.
Ferguson brings to the head coaching position a love of golf and a vocational commitment to ministry and discipleship. “I am very grateful for Scott’s willingness to step into this important role,” said Mark Whitworth, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics & University Strategic Communications. “Our golf program will benefit greatly from his relational and organizational skills. He has a clear vision for the growth of Asbury golf as we transition to NCAA Division III. Most importantly, Scott possesses a deep desire to invest in and minister to our student-athletes.”
“I am very excited for the opportunity to build a program that makes both our current student-athletes and our alumni proud,” said Ferguson. “We have great young men and women currently that give us a strong foundation. I’m thankful to both Mark Whitworth and Dr. Brown for this responsibility and am excited to get to work growing our golf program here at Asbury!”
