WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury University men's soccer (0-2-1 CCS) controlled the run of play throughout the evening but was unable to find a breakthrough, settling for a 0-0 draw and freshman
Tolan Beaty's frirst career clean sheet, against Boyce College (0-0-1) on Monday night at the Gray Outdoor Venue.
The Eagles dictated possession and generated numerous scoring opportunities, outshooting the visitors 20-7 and holding a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. Despite the attacking pressure, Boyce goalkeeper Jalen Smith turned away seven Asbury shots on goal to preserve the deadlock.
Asbury threatened early in the opening half with attempts from
Nathan Haglund,
Eli Redpath,
Jonas Irakoze, and
Grant Slater, but none could find the back of the net. The Eagles recorded 14 first-half shots while limiting Boyce to five through the opening 45 minutes.
The pressure continued after halftime as
Ariel Ortega,
Elyse Kaze, and Haglund each forced saves from Smith within a four-minute stretch early in the second half. Asbury maintained control throughout the final stanza and finished the night with seven shots on target.
Defensively, the Eagles were solid once again. Goalkeeper
Tolan Beaty collected four saves and earned his first clean sheet of his career, while the back line limited Boyce to just four shots on goal over 90 minutes.
Redpath paced the Eagles with a team-high five shots, while Haglund,
Michael Biebel,
Jacob Graston, and
Ben Shifflet added multiple attempts in the attack.
The Eagles move to 0-2-1 on the season and continue non-conference play this week.
