WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury men's soccer (3-3-2, 1-0-0 CCS) opened conference play with an offensive outburst on Saturday afternoon, scoring five times to defeat Piedmont (1-7-1, 0-1-0), 5-2, at Asbury Soccer Field.
Eli Redpath opened the scoring in the 14th minute, finishing an opportunity assisted by
Nathan Haglund to give the Eagles an early 1-0 advantage.
Tyson Absher doubled the AU lead in the 34th minute with his first goal of the afternoon. Piedmont answered on a penalty kick from Daris Mustic at 36:23, sending Asbury into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
Just over five minutes into the second half, Absher found the net again off an assist from Haglund, pushing the Asbury advantage to 3-1. Only 18 seconds later, the duo reversed roles as Absher assisted Haglund for another goal, giving AU a commanding 4-1 lead in the 51st minute.
Piedmont cut the deficit to two when Noah Goodman scored in the 80th minute, but Asbury responded almost immediately.
Gregory Meyer found the back of the net at 80:39 off an assist from
Elyse Kaze, restoring the three-goal advantage and closing out the 5-2 victory.
Absher led the AU attack with two goals and an assist for five points, putting two of his four shots on frame. Haglund added one goal and two assists for four points, while Redpath recorded a goal on three shots, all three of which were on target. Meyer scored on his lone shot of the afternoon.
Asbury finished with a 15-13 advantage in shots and a 10-4 edge in shots on goal. The Eagles also produced three corner kicks while allowing three. Goalkeeper
Tolan Beaty played all 90 minutes for AU, making two saves to earn the win.
