LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. — Asbury volleyball (6-4, 2-1 CCS) fell to Covenant College (11-1, 4-0 CCS), 3-0, Wednesday evening at the Barnes PE Center in Collegiate Conference of the South action.
The Eagles dropped the opening set, 25-21, before battling Covenant in a tightly contested second set. Asbury claimed a 25-24 lead late in the frame, but the Scots responded with three straight points to take the set, 27-25. Covenant then closed out the match with a 25-15 third-set victory.
Asbury was led offensively by Isabelle VandeSchraaf, who recorded 10 kills on 31 attacks. Abigail Bruner posted six kills on 10 attacks for a .500 hitting percentage. Megan Schelling also contributed seven kills and two block assists.
Sara Beth Gray recorded 16 assists, while Katelyn Chapman added 11 assists. Lilly Cowing led the Eagles defensively with 11 digs, followed by VandeSchraaf with eight and Gray with six.
The Eagles held their strongest offensive showing of the night in the second set, hitting .438 with 14 kills and no attack errors. Asbury also recorded eight total blocks in the match, including four in the second set.
