BEREA, Ky. -- Asbury men's soccer (1-3-1, 0-0-0 CCS) erased an early deficit in the first half, but host Berea College (3-2-2, 0-0-0 HCAC) pulled away with a pair of second-half goals to defeat the Eagles, 3-1, on Wednesday night at the Berea Sports Complex.
Berea struck first in the ninth minute before Asbury answered just over 12 minutes later. Sophomore forward
Tyson Absher found the equalizer in the 21st minute, netting his second goal of the season to level the match at 1-1. The Eagles carried that scoreline into halftime after a strong defensive effort and several key saves from goalkeeper
Tolan Beaty.
The Mountaineers gained control shortly after the break, scoring in the 52nd minute and adding another just three minutes later to build a two-goal cushion. Despite continuing to create chances throughout the second half, Asbury was unable to cut into the deficit as Berea held on for the victory.
Beaty recorded seven saves, including a stop on a first-half penalty kick and several key saves to keep Asbury within striking distance throughout the contest.
Asbury totaled 10 shots in the match, with Absher leading the attack with five attempts and the Eagles' lone goal. The Eagles and Mountaineers were even at 1-1 after the first 45 minutes before Berea used its offensive pressure in the second half to secure the win.
