GRAYSON, Ky. --- The Asbury women's soccer team (1-0, 0-0 CCS) opened the season with a 2-0 victory over Kentucky Christian University (0-1-1, 0-0 RSC)

The Eagles wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Just 1:08 into the match, senior captain Anna Sparks found the back of the net for the game's opening goal, giving Asbury an early 1-0 advantage that held through halftime.

Asbury controlled play throughout the afternoon, out shooting Kentucky Christian 24-3 and holding an 8-1 edge in corner kicks. The Eagles placed 14 shots on goal while limiting their opponents to just one shot on target.

The insurance goal came in the 66th minute when junior Emily Carpenter finished a scoring chance off an assist from Sydney Breeze, extending the lead to 2-0.

Offensively, Sparks led the way with five shots and four on goal to go along with her score, while Carpenter added a goal on two shots. Abigail Nelson contributed five shots, and Bria Stiff added three attempts. 

Defensively, the Eagles were nearly flawless. Goalkeepers Peyton Steiniger and Sheridan Harrison combined for the shutout, with Harrison recording Asbury's lone save of the contest in the second half. 

Despite a strong performance from Kentucky Christian goalkeeper Abigayle Moore, who made 11 saves, Asbury's pressure proved too much as the Eagles secured their second straight victory to open the 2026 campaign
