Watkins and Murillo Tabbed CCS Tournament MVPs; Nova, Zegarra, Britos, and Patino Named All-Tournament

ATLANTA, Ga. --- Asbury tennis junior accounting major Malory Watkins and sophomore media communications major Ignacio Murillo were tabbed the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Tournament MVPs, followed by Katherine Nova, Ariadna Zegarra, Alejo Britos, and Franco Patino earning All-Tournament recognition.

Watkins, a Garrard County, Ky., native, sealed the team victory at No. 4 singles with a 6–1, 6–4 win to clinch the semifinal match. She then delivered under pressure in the championship, battling through three sets for a 6–1, 3–6, 7–5 victory to secure the title for the Eagles.

Murillo, a San Jose, Costa Rica, native, clinched the semifinal win for Asbury at No. 6 singles with a dominant 6–3, 6–0 result to complete the 4–2 team victory. He followed that performance by sealing the championship with another commanding straight-set win at No. 6 singles.

Nova, a Lexington, Ky., native, added a 6–2, 6–2 win at No. 1 singles in the semifinals to extend the Eagles' lead. She also earned a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles in the championshipIgnacio Murillo all tournament 26 match. In doubles play, Nova teamed with Alexandra Garcia for a 6–4 win at No. 1 doubles.

Zegarra, a senior from Lima, Peru, posted a dominant 6–0, 6–3 victory at No. 2 singles in the semifinals before following with a 6–0, 6–0 win at No. 2 singles in the championship. She also paired with Watkins to clinch the doubles point in the title match with a 7–6 (10–8) victory at No. 2 doubles.

Britos, a senior from Buenos Aires, Argentina, added a strong straight-set victory at No. 4 singles in the championship match, winning 7–6, 6–3.

Patino, a senior from Santa Fe, Argentina, delivered a key comeback victory at No. 2 singles in the championship, rallying after dropping the first set to win in three sets and even the team score.
