Men's Tennis Claims Second Straight CCS Regular Season Title; Women Tops Covenant on Senior Day

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS

DANVILLE, Ky. — Asbury men's tennis (11-5, 6-0 CCS) clinched their second straight Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) regular season title on Friday defeating Covenant 4-3, while the women (9-7, 6-1 CCS) topped Covenant 5-2 to improve to 6-1 in conference play.

After the matches Asbury Tennis celebrated seniors Alejo Britos, Ignacio Ardiles, Franco Patino, Ariadna Zegarra, and Olivia Mansfield for their four years of contributions to TeamAU.

MEN'S NOTES

The Eagles set the tone early by claiming the doubles point, winning two of three matchups. Andres Caceres and Ben Moore dominated at No. 2 with a 6-2 victory, while Alejo Britos and Paolo Cargnelutti matched that scoreline at No. 3 to give Asbury a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

In singles play, Asbury picked up three key wins to clinch the match. At No. 5, Caceres delivered a composed performance in a 6-4, 6-0 win, and Jose Ignacio Murillo followed with a solid 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 6.

The decisive point came in a dramatic three-set battle at No. 3, where Ignacio Ardiles showed resilience, bouncing back after dropping the first set to win 2-6, 7-6, 7-6 and help claim the team victory.

Ben Moore also battled at the top spot, forcing a third set after taking the second, while Franco Patino competed strong at No. 2.

WOMEN'S NOTES

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead by claiming the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Katherine Nova and Alexandra Garcia led the way with a 6-3 victory, while Malory Watkins and Ariadna Zegarra followed with a solid 6-2 win to give Asbury a 1-0 advantage.

In singles play, Asbury picked up four more points to clinch the match. Nova delivered a strong performance at No. 1, winning 6-2, 7-6, while Zegarra controlled her match at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.

Garcia continued the momentum at No. 3, earning a 6-0, 6-4 win, and Watkins added another point at No. 4 with a convincing 6-1, 6-2 performance.

Cara Clark battled in a tightly contested three-set match at No. 5, pushing to a match tiebreak, while Olivia Mansfield battled at No. 6.

STORY - NEXT UP
Teams will now await final seeding and placements for the CCS Tournament next week (April 24-26) in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The men will be the No.1 seed and the women will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament.
