SEWANEE, Tenn. — Asbury (5–11, 0–0 CCS) took an early lead in the first inning, but Sewanee (9–4–1, 0–0 SAA) responded quickly and controlled the remainder of the game, defeating the Eagles 8–1 on Sunday afternoon to complete a weekend series sweep.
Asbury opened the scoring in the top of the first inning after generating early traffic on the bases. A leadoff walk followed by a sacrifice bunt moved a runner into scoring position, and Hayden Fisher delivered an RBI single to center field to give the Eagles a 1–0 advantage. It would be the only run Asbury managed on the afternoon.
Sewanee answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning. After a single sparked the rally, Will Jennewein lined a two-run single to center field to give the Tigers a 2–1 lead and the momentum.
The Tigers added to their lead in the fourth inning when an error allowed a run to score, making it 3–1. Sewanee extended the margin in the fifth as John Bagwell doubled to right-center field to drive in two runs, one of which was unearned, to push the score to 5–1. The Tigers continued to add insurance in the sixth when Tyler Pinson singled up the middle to bring home two more runs and stretch the lead to 7–1.
Asbury starter Devin Walker worked four innings and kept the Eagles within reach early in the game. Walker allowed three earned runs on six hits while striking out four and walking one across 80 pitches before exiting after the fourth inning with Asbury trailing 3–1.
Offensively, the Eagles were limited to three hits by Sewanee starter Graber, who worked seven innings and allowed one earned run while walking three and striking out three on 79 pitches. The Tigers' bullpen closed out the final two innings to secure the victory.
Asbury finished with one run on three hits and three errors, while Sewanee totaled eight runs on 13 hits with one error.
