Men's and Women Tennis Stay Perfect in CCS Play; Defeat Maryville on the Road

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS

MARYVILLE, Tenn. ---  Asbury men's (5-4, 3-0 CCS) and women's (5-3, 3-0 CCS) continued their perfect start to Collegiate Conference South (CCS) play as both teams collected road victories over Maryville College.

The men claimed a 4-3 win as the women took a 5-2 victory over the Scots.

MEN'S NOTES

The Eagles started strong by sweeping all three doubles matches to claim the opening point.

At No. 1 doubles, Ignacio Ardiles and Franco Patino battled to a narrow 7–6 victory over Maryville's James Smith and Steven Fitzsimmons. Ben Moore and Andres Caceres followed with a solid 6–3 win at No. 2 doubles, while Victor Pereira and Alejo Britos completed the sweep at No. 3 with a 6–4 victory to give Asbury the early 1–0 advantage.

Maryville responded in singles play, taking the top two courts. Ben Moore fell to James Smith 6–2, 6–3 at No. 1 singles, and Franco Patino dropped a 6–1, 6–0 decision to Grant Price at No. 2 as the Scots briefly took the lead.

The Eagles answered in the middle of the lineup. At No. 3 singles, Ignacio Ardiles earned a key win, defeating Field Myatt 7–5, 6–3. Alejo Britos followed with a strong performance at No. 4 singles, securing a 6–4, 6–1 victory over Benjamin Schneider.

The match came down to the remaining courts, and Andres Caceres delivered the decisive point for Asbury at No. 5 singles with a steady 6–3, 6–3 win against Luka Romano.

In the final match on court, Ignacio Murillo battled in a lengthy contest before falling to Steven Fitzsimmons 7–5, 7–6 (1–0) in the third-set super tiebreak at No. 6 singles.

WOMEN'S NOTES
Asbury opened the match by claiming the doubles point with wins on two of the three courts. At No. 1 doubles, Katherine Nova and Alexandra Garcia controlled their match from the start, earning a 6–3 victory over McKena Spencer and Calliana Kondolios.

The Eagles followed with another decisive win at No. 2 doubles as Ariadna Zegarra and Malory Watkins led to a 6–1 victory against Maggie Hackney and Clara Plass. Maryville picked up the final doubles match at No. 3, where Isabella Sanchez and Cara Clark fell 6–3 to Jasmine Muecke and Josie McRae.

Leading 1–0 entering singles, the Eagles quickly took control of the match.

Katherine Nova turned in a dominant performance at No. 1 singles, defeating Kondolios 6–1, 6–1. Zegarra followed with a commanding 6–0, 6–2 win over Muecke at No. 2 singles, extending Asbury's lead.

The Eagles continued their strong play at No. 3 singles as Alexandra Garcia earned a 6–1, 6–3 victory over Spencer, securing another point for Asbury.

Maryville responded with wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Watkins fell 6–2, 6–2 to Plass at No. 4, while Sanchez battled through a tightly contested match before falling 7–6, 7–5 to Hackney at No. 5.

The final match on court came at No. 6 singles, where Cara Clark battled back after dropping the second set to defeat McRae 6–3, 4–6, 1–0 in a third-set super tiebreak, sealing the 5–2 team victory for the Eagles.
