OWENSBORO, Ky. --- Asbury men's tennis team (1-0, 0-0 CCS) claimed a opening match win over National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division-II Kentucky Wesleyan (1-5, 0-0 GMAC), 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon in Owensboro, Ky.
The Eagles opened the match with three close doubles contests. At No. 1 doubles, Andres Caceres and Ben Moore battled in a thrilling match, dropping a narrow 7–6 decision after winning the opening set 6–3. Ignacio Ardiles and Franco Patiño secured Asbury's lone doubles win at the No. 2 position, earning a solid 7–5 victory to keep the Eagles within striking distance. The No. 3 duo of Paolo Cargnelutti and Antonio Núñez also pushed their match to a tiebreak but fell 7–6 after taking the first set 6–3.
Asbury responded well in singles play, claiming four victories across the six courts. Ben Moore was dominant at No. 2 singles, cruising to a straight-sets win, 6–2, 6–4. Ignacio Ardiles followed with a strong performance at No. 3, winning 7–5, 6–1 to secure another point for the Eagles.
Alejo Britos earned the deciding match in a convincing way, winning 6–2, 6–4 at the No. 5 singles, while Paolo Cargnelutti capped off singles play with a 6–4, 6–4 win at the No. 6 position.
