Asbury Grabs CCS Road Victory Over Piedmont, 78-71; Four Finish in Double Figures

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS

DEMOREST, Ga. — Asbury men's basketball (4-15, 2-4 CCS) battled hard on the road Thursday night at Piedmont University (9-10, 0-5 CCS), putting together a strong effort on both ends helping them earn a 78-71 victory, securing their second CCS win on the year.

The Eagles jumped on Piedmont early and took a 37-23 lead into halftime behind hot shooting and balanced scoring. Asbury continued to hold off the Lions in the second half, never relinquishing control as they secured a crucial conference win.

Junior business administration major Jordan Lewis paced the Eagle offense with 16 points on four-of-six shooting from the field and seven-of-nine at the free-throw line while adding two rebounds, five assists, and a steal in 31 minutes of play.

Junior finance major Jonathan Combs was right behind with 13 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, shooting five-of-eight from the floor and going three-for-five from deep.

Junior guard Cam Jones provided a spark off the bench, totaling 13 points on five-of-nine shooting including three triples, while junior forward Tyler Hall returned from injury, chipping in 10 points in his return.

Sophomore guard Indred Whitaker scored 9 points and hit three of his five three-point attempts, and freshman forward William Burnside added six points and five rebounds.

As a team, Asbury shot 42.2% from the field and made 14-of-37 three-pointers, while forcing 15 turnovers and scoring strong in transition to build and maintain their lead.

Piedmont rallied in the second half, but Asbury's balanced scoring and stiff defense down the stretch helped secure the Eagles' second conference victory of the season.
