LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. --- The Asbury volleyball team (7-6, 3-0 CCS) swept Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) opponent Covenant College (6-8, 2-2 CCS), 3-0, on the road in Lookout Mountain, Ga., to stay undefeated in the CCS and win their fifth straight match.
AU came from behind 25-24 in the first set to score the next three points and win 27-25. The Eagles won the next two closely contested sets, 25-20 and 25-21.
Offensively, Asbury used 44 kills in three sets with only 18 errors at a .211 hitting percentage. They also used 42 assists and five service aces to get their scoring going.
CCS Defensive Player of the Week,
Riley McChord, reached 20 digs in only three sets. AU had 75 digs in the match, compared to Covenant's 65 digs.
Lucy Kate Gray had her fourth double-double of the year with 18 assists and 12 digs.
Megan Schelling,
Abigail Bruner, and
Emma Dean each had two blocks defensively. Bruner also had a season-high nine kills in the match.
National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week,
Isabelle VandeSchraaf, had her sixth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 11 digs. Freshman
Julia Wright had her fourth match of the last five with 16 or more assists.
Asbury is now 3-0 in the CCS and has reached above .500 in their overall record for the first time this season.
