Asbury Sweeps Singles to Beat Midway; Earn Fifth Straight

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
MIDWAY, Ky.--- The No. 1 ranked team in the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS), Asbury men's tennis (8-2, 3-0 CCS), won all six singles matches to win their fifth straight match, defeating Midway University on the road in Midway, Ky., on Tuesday afternoon, 6-1.

Asbury slipped in the doubles point after being edged 6-4 in both the No. 1 match and No. 3 contests. The reigning CCS Doubles Team of the Week, sophomore business administration major Andres Caceres and sophomore accounting major Ben Moore continued their success with a 6-3 win in the No. 2 doubles match.

Asbury responded to the one-point disadvantage on the road heading into singles by winning all six of the matches over Midway. Moore and junior Alejo Britos each took tiebreak wins for AU, Moore in the No. 3 match (6-1, 2-6, 10-4) and Britos in the No. 6 matchup (3-6, 6-4, 10-8).

CCS Player of the Week Alejandro Caceres came from behind to take a 7-5, 7-5 win over Midway in the No. 1 individual battle. Franco Patino, Ignacio Ardiles, and Andres Caceres also took strong victories for the Eagles in their matches.

Asbury had fallen on the road at Midway during the previous two seasons, but now leads the overall series 7-2.

STORY - QUOTE
"The team as a whole has been showing up as we have been training more intensely in preparation for postseason! The biggest thing for us is maintaining our fire during matches as the mental game is huge. Looking forward I'm hoping to see us continually show up in the same way we did today!"
Ben Moore | Sophomore | Accounting | Winter Park, Fla.

STORY - NEXT UP
The Eagles will meet No. 3 CCS ranked Piedmont University on the road in Demorest, Ga., on Saturday at 11 am.
