Yates Leads Asbury to First CCS Win; Eagles Split Doubleheader with Piedmont

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
DEMOREST, Ga.--- Asbury baseball (5-15, 1-8 CCS) sophomore engineering and mathematics major Ryan Yates pitched 8.1 innings to lead the Eagles to their first Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) win, 4-2, but AU fell in game two of the doubleheader to succomb the series to Piedmont on Saturday in Demorest, Ga., 12-1. 

Yates, a Franklin, Tenn., native allowed only two runs, one walk, and struck out two in his stellar outing. Sophomore biology major Brady Robeson came on to get the final out of the game, earning his fourth career save. 

Graduate student Kaden Dugle led AU offensively with five hits on the day, driving in two runs and scoring one as well. 

Game One | ASBURY 4, PIEDMONT 2
Piedmont scored one in the second inning and didn't score again until the bottom of the ninth. The Lions had only two walks in the game and were held scoreless by Yates for seven consecutive innings. 

Asbury tied the game in the third on a Josh McNulty single scoring Cam Wevaer, 1-1. AU scored their other three runs in the top of the seventh on three singles including a clutch two-RBI single from Dugle to score McNulty and Andrew Billington

Robeson came out of the bullpen with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth and caught a Piedmont line-drive to secure the 4-2 victory. 

Game Two | HUNTINGDON 11, ASBURY 8    
AU went ahead 1-0 in the second after Dugle scored from an Austin Akridge sacrifice fly to center. Piedmont used seven hits across the second and third innings to score six runs, going ahead 6-1. 

Freshman left-hander Even McClain got the start for Asbury and went 2.0 innings. Jacob Camfield, Devin Walker, and Andrew Gilliam came out of the bullpen for AU as well. 

The Eagles struck out seven times while Piedmont struck out only once with 13 hits. Piedmont also held AU at only one walk. 

The Lions scored six more runs to take a 12-1 win to take the three-game series over Asbury.
