SALEM, Ore. --- Asbury men's basketball (0-10, 0-0 CCS) fell on the road in Salem, Ore., on Thursday night against the Willamette Bearcats (5-2, 1-0 NWC), 92-69.
Willamette scored 55 first-half points to gain a 16-point lead, 55-39, and then put up 37 points to Asbury's 30 in the second half to take the win. The Bearcats used 48 points in the paint and 15 second-chance points to secure the win.
Junior finance major
Jonathan Combs led Asbury with 14 points and nine rebounds. AU guards
Jordan Lewis and
Luke Imfeld had four assists apiece and combined for 16 points.
Asbury made their second-most threes in a game this season with 12 made from distance. The Eagles made seven in the first half and five threes in the second half. Willamette made nine threes of their own in the game.
The Bearcats shot 58% from the field (37-64) and out-rebounded AU, 36-32. Asbury committed 20 turnovers while having 14 assists, compared to Willamette's 13 giveaways and 17 assists.
Cam Jones and
Indred Whitaker each made three three-pointers for Asbury, Jones with 11 points and Whitaker with nine points.
AU also got to the free-throw line at their second-highest mark of the season, going 17-24 from the stripe.
