WILMORE, Ky.--- Asbury men's basketball (4-13, 0-5 CCS) finance major
Luke Imfeld scored a career-high 28 points on Friday night in the Asbury Luce Center, but the Eagles fell short to the No. 1 ranked team in the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS), Belhaven University (14-3, 4-0 CCS), 87-74.
Belhaven started the game on a 14-0 run, but Asbury responded with 38 first half points to trailed at the break by 10, 48-38. AU came out clicking in the second half with a 12-2 run to tie the game at 50-50, but the Blazers went on to win the half 39-36 for the victory.
AU made their most threes in a game this season with 14, while Belhaven made 11 from distance. The Eagles also shot their best field goal percentage since early December, shooting 42% from the field.
The Eagles used 18 points off turnovers, forcing Belhaven into 14 giveaways. AU committed nine turnovers and dished 15 assists in the game.
Imfeld went 7-9 from three on the night for his 28 points alongside three rebounds, two steals, and an assist. Sophomore guard
Aden Slone was near a double-double with 11 points for AU and eight assists.
Belhaven won the rebound battle 40-23 and earned 15 second chance points alongside 32 paint points. The Blazers shot 52% from the field and went 20-28 from the free-throw line.
AU will host Piedmont University for another CCS home matchup on Saturday afternoon in the Asbury Luce Center at 4 pm after the women's basketball game.
