Women's Tennis Continues Historic Start; Men Fall in Close Match at Midway


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
MIDWAY, Ky.--- Looking to continue their winning streaks, Asbury men's and women's tennis traveled to Midway on Wednesday afternoon for a clash with an old conference opponent. The women's team (11-0) powered to their eleventh straight win defeating Midway (4-7), 4-1. The men's team (9-3) fell in a thriller to the Midway men's team (5-6), 3-4.

Asbury and Midway competed against one another in the NAIA's River States Conference before Asbury declared their move to the NCAA Division-III. 

The women's match featured five singles matches, AU taking four of the five. The Eagles wins came from Martina Paillet, Megan Moore, Fernanda Heredia, and Kourtney Kawata

The men fell in a thrilling fashion, taking two of the three doubles matches, but ultimately dropping four of the singles matches. Key wins came from Alejandro Caceres and Ignacio Ardiles

WOMEN'S NOTES
Martina Paillet secured the #2 singles match, 1-6, 6-4, 10-5 while Megan Moore claimed the win in the #3 singles match 7-5, 6-4.

AU just played singles matches during the day due to already clinching the victory and due to darkness and cold.

The win continues AU women's tennis' historic 11-game win streak to open their season, their best ever.

MEN'S NOTES
Asbury was able to take two out of three doubles matches, but suffered losses in four of the six singles matches, falling to Midway 3-4.

The doubles matches were won by Andres CaceresBen Moore, 6-4 and Gregorio Bustingorri / Alejandro Caceres, 6-2. AU's two singles victories came from Alejandro Caceres 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 and Ignacio Ardiles 4-6, 7-5, 10-7.

The women's team will compete at Centre in Danville, Ky., on Thursday, March 28th at 4 PM.
The men's team next competes in Danville, Ky., on Friday at 1 PM against Sewanee.
