Johnson Six Hits and Yates First Win; Eagles Split with Oberlin


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
LEXINGTON, Ky.--- Asbury MBA student Matthew Johnson collected six hits and freshman engineering mathematics major Ryan Yates grabbed his first career win as Asbury baseball (9-11) dropped game one and responded to take game two against Oberlin College (9-7) in Lexington, Ky., at the Lexington Legends Field. 

The Asbury offense combined for 19 hits and 19 runs on the day, slipping to Oberlin in game one (7-9), but taking a convincing game two win on the day (12-2). Oberlin's one win on the day gave the Yoeman the series as the took the inital game of the series on Saturday afternoon.

"We got one of two, we always want to win a weekend series, but we were able to resist a sweep in game three. We're hoping to take the game three momentum onto the game with Berea in the midweek. We're not satisfied with where we are at but we're looking to continue to get where we want to be."

STORY - TOP PERFORMERS
* Matthew Johnson went 6-9 on the day with two runs scored and a walk
* Freshman right-hander Ryan Yates earned his first career win, going five innings with four strikeouts and holding Oberlin to no runs after they scored 19 combined in the first two games of the series
* Noah Brown and Quinn Nobles each had two hits in the first game of the day, Brown scoring two runs and an RBI, Nobles drivingin a run with a run scored
* Kaden Dugle and Jacob Smith each had two hits in game two, Smith driving in three RBIs with a run scored and Dugle scoring two runs with an RBI
* Holten Handel came out of the pen for AU in game one of the day with four innings of work to strike out three with four hits and two runs
* Jacob Camfield and Brady Robeson provided a scorless inning of work each out of the bullpen for AU

* Oberlin scored four runs in the first three innings, collecting 13 hits in the game
* Asbury scored five in the fifth, bring the game to 6-7
