Asbury Opens Home Season at Kentucky Proud Park
LEXINGTON, Ky. --- Asbury baseball head coach and University of Kentucky Alum,
Manny Cervantes will lead the Eagles in their first home games of the 2024 season on Friday, hosted at Kentucky Proud Park Stadium in Lexington, Ky.
The state-of-the-art stadium has been home to the University of Kentucky baseball team since 2019, considered as one of the top facilities in all of college baseball.
In his 11th year leading Asbury baseball, Cervantes enters with a 104-47 record in the last four seasons. Being welcomed by his former team, Cervantes returns to the University of Kentucky campus after completing his collegiate career with the Wildcats as a player.
In his single season at UK, Cervantes hit for a .311 average, eight HR, 23 XBH, and a .430 OBP in 59 games. He earned Second-Team All-Southeastern Conference honors in 1991 for the Wildcats. Concluding the 1991 season, Cervantes signed with the Seattle Mariners and played two professional seasons with the franchise from 1992-1994.
Cervantes began his collegiate career at Oklahoma State, playing there during 1988-1990, making it to the NCAA tournament three times and reaching the national title game in 1990. After the conclusion of the 1990 season, Cervantes transferred to the University of Kentucky for the 1991 season to play under head coach Keith Madison.
AU baseball will host a doubleheader on Friday with Rockford University at 12 pm, and one game Saturday with Rockford at 12 pm. Tune into all games live through
