Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Asbury Comes Up Short on the Road to Boyce, 88-86

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--- The Asbury men's basketball team (4-7, 0-0 CCS) had four double-digit scorers on Tuesday night but came up short at Boyce College (2-7) in Louisville, Ky., 88-86.

The Eagles made two three-pointers in the final 13 seconds of the game to rally back for a 30-foot chance from Cam Jones to steal the win but it didn't fall. Sophomore Cayden Lancaster made the three at 13 seconds (85-83) and senior Ben McNew knocked down the triple with five seconds to go (87-86).

AU led 31-27 at the end of the first half against Boyce, playing in their first game since December 7th at Bob Jones College. The Eagles held Boyce to 33% shooting from the field in the half and led the Bulldogs into seven turnovers.

Boyce took the second half 61-55 to secure their win after Asbury took the matchup between these two teams in Wilmore earlier this month on December 3rd. Boyce shortened their turnovers to three in the second half and made six threes to more than double their first half score.

Asbury graduate student Clayton Winter had 18 points with six rebounds on 8-12 shooting from the field including two made threes. McNew led the Eagles with 21 points, adding five boards and three assists.

Sophomores Cam Jones and Tyler Hall also tallied 18 points apiece, Hall making three three-pointers and Jones grabbed five rebounds with three assists. McNew, Winter, Jones, and Hall combined for 75 of the 86 AU points.

Boyce forward Josh Sangalli went 14-20 from the field and 6-9 from distance for 38 points and also collected 12 rebounds for the double-double.

The Eagles made 10 threes compared to the Boyce eight and shot 41% from the floor while the Bulldogs finished with a 49% field percentage. Asbury led the rebound battle 43-38 with 13 second chance points on 12 offensive boards compared to six offensive rebounds from Boyce.

Boyce scored 15 points off the 10 AU turnovers while AU added 10 points off turnovers from nine giveaways from the Bulldogs. The teams were almost identical from the line with AU going 16-21 and Boyce shooting 16-20.
