  • What does serving, training, and competing for the glory of God mean to you?

Serving, training, and competing for the glory of God means playing for something bigger than yourself. Playing at this level is not a given, and God has blessed me enough to be able to enjoy this opportunity. Making sure that I compete at 100% all the time is a standard I try to hold myself to. Soccer and golf have become great avenues to serve my brothers around me both on and off the field/course.

  • Who are some of the coaches, faculty and staff that have impacted you at AU?

There is truly a wide variety of people God has put in my life here at Asbury that have impacted my journey. From day one Coach Zach Meerkreebs has had a serious impact on my spiritual journey, and has taught me what it means to be all-in. Dr. Dan Lewis is another that has taken me under his wing and been a mentor in my spiritual journey. I could spend all day talking about the many people that God has put around me through AU.

  • How have you grown spiritually during your time at Asbury?

During my time at Asbury my spiritual journey has been a bit of a roller-coaster. As a student-athlete it is very easy to put your relationship with God on the back-burner. This is something that I have struggled with for a while, but people like Dr. Lewis and Coach Meerkreebs keep reminding me to take a second and sit with the Lord. My time at Asbury has truly strengthened my relationship with Jesus but also has brought some great challenges that are not always easy.

  • What advice would you give to new student-athletes coming to Asbury?

My advice would be to lean into the people around you. By that, I mean really get to know your coaches, teammates, other student-athletes, and your professors. Allow them to challenge you, teach you, and coach you. When things get tough, these are going to be the people you call first.

Austin was one of the integral components to our success this year. His energy all season was special. I’m so proud of his development but more importantly his leadership and character.
Ben Andrews | Men's Soccer Head Coach
Austin had a really strong season. He was second on the team in points (16) with seven goals and two assists. More importantly, he was a great leader for the team. He has a good work ethic and consistently set a tone in training. Over the course of the season he really learned to show the way for his teammates.
