Women's Soccer Ends in Draw with Franklin

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury women's soccer (0-1-1) took the field Friday night to face Franklin College (1-0-2), in a NCAA Division-III matchup. The game was all defense from the start and neither team was able to find the back of the net, resulting in a draw, 0-0.

The first nine minutes of the match were stale and neither team recorded a shot. In the 10th minute Franklin College attempted the first shot of the night that missed wide left.

The defense for both sides stood firm for the next 22 minutes and Franklin attempted the second shot of the night that missed high.

In the 39th minute Franklin College made a strong push for a goal, but was denied by goalkeeper Maliya Crump who was flawless on the night.

Neither team made a push for the rest of the half and the first period ended scoreless.

Things were pretty quiet until the 70th minute when Asbury struck their first shot of the night by Hannah Muncie that was blocked by a Franklin defender. Muncie's shot was followed by an attempt by Maggie Higdon that missed left, and the score stayed tied.

In the 79th minute senior and captain, Caroline Absher got in the action with a shot that missed just high.

Then in the 83rd minute Asbury made a late pushing attack to try and take a lead. Hannah Muncie found herself in the Franklin box and put a good shot on goal but, Franklin goalkeeper Makenna Mundy made a terrific save.

Maliya Crump in the 88th minute would build on her flawless day, with a nice save to keep the score at 0-0, where the game would end.

Asbury moves to 0-1-1 on the season after two Friday night contests on their home field in back-back-back weeks to start their season.

"As the game went on we were starting to put some things together. The team is giving the effort needed we just need time to put it all together. Defensively we limited their shots and of course we love the shutout!"
