BEREA, Ky.--- Asbury volleyball (1-0) opened the 2023 season on Friday night with a gutsy five-set win over the University of Lynchburg in Berea, Ky.
The first set of the night set the tone for the entire match, Lynchburg taking a close win, 25-23.
In the second set Asbury responded with a 25-22 win to tie things at one apiece. No team won a set by more than six points all night.
Lynchburg put together their strongest set of the night in the third, scoring 25 points to Asbury's 19. AU trailed 2-1 after the loss, needing to win two straight to come out on top.

Tiffany Horton's team responded with an answering win, tying the score at 2-2 overall after their 25-21 finish. In the deciding fifth and final set of Asbury's first match of the season they took a 15-11 victory to finish the match at 3-2.
AU moves to 1-0 to start the year with three more matches in the Berea Invitational on deck.
Asbury will play The College of Wooster on Saturday at 10:30 am and Berea College at 1 pm.
