Serve > Train > Compete Feature I Presented by Kessinger Lee

WILMORE, Ky.— Asbury Athletics is committed to providing student-athletes an opportunity to serve, train, and compete through college athletics for the glory of God. The Kessinger Lee sponsored Serve > Train > Compete Feature aims to highlight Asbury student-athletes pursuing this mission.

Kessinger Lee presents Hannah Muncie as the first Serve > Train > Compete featured student-athlete.

Hannah Muncie I Biology | So. | Lexington, Ky.

Hannah is a sophomore for Asbury women's soccer and is studying Biology at AU. She embodies the vision of Asbury University Athletics to use the platform of college athletics to share the light of Christ and compete for His glory.

Hannah has exemplified SERVE by serving in middle school student ministry at a local church and is a certified EMT, serving the Lexington community.

She represents TRAIN by her consistent hard work ethic at soccer training sessions, as well as her effort in the classroom as a Biology Pre-Med major.

Hannah reflects COMPETE with her competitive mentality on the pitch to make her teammates better and pursue excellence. She earned All-Mideast Region honors in her freshman season for Asbury.

Serve > Train > Compete
SERVE I The action of putting others before ourselves. TRAIN I The act of preparing through discipline and commitment. COMPETE I Pursuing excellence and success in competition.
  • What does serving, training, and competing for the glory of God mean to you?

Serving, training, and competing for the glory of God means getting to use the gifts that He has blessed me with to not only perform well on the soccer field, but also to help others. Both help me to pursue my calling of making God known to those around me.

  • Who are some of the coaches, faculty and staff that have impacted you at AU?

Coach Zach has impacted me in pushing me to train the hardest I can so that I compete the best I can. Jennifer McChord has been a great support and role model in my spiritual growth.

  • How have you grown spiritually during your time at Asbury?

I have grown a lot spiritually so far during my time at Asbury. I have been surrounded by some really amazing people who have pushed and challenged me to expand and grow my faith in different aspects. God has also used some different seasons to reveal new things about His character to me. The Outpouring kickstarted a fire inside of me to go even deeper in my knowledge, faith, and love of our Lord and Savior. It was something I will remember for the rest of my life and will forever thank the Lord for that time.

  • What advice would you give to new student-athletes coming to Asbury?

Some advice that I would give to new-student athletes at Asbury would be to really embrace the culture that Asbury sports teams have to offer. Striving to compete for God's glory every time you step on the field or court. Also, don't be afraid to make friends outside of your teammates, there are a lot of awesome people on other sports teams and non-athletes. Having a variety of different people influencing you helps to grow and push you.

Muncie is one of those players that exemplifies the Serve, Train, Compete mission for our program, athletics department, and university. Serving in a variety of roles on and off campus, as well as competing at the highest level each day brings the best out of her and sets the standard needed to compete at the collegiate level. She not only expects the best from herself, but also wants to get the best out of her teammates. We are excited to see what the fall 2023 season holds for her and our program.
Zach Welch | Women's Soccer Head Coach
I couldn’t think of anyone more exemplary of serve train and compete. I’ve gotten to know Hannah as a student-athlete and personally as a friend. She exemplifies the characteristics of the Asbury student-athlete and we seek to replicate that with all of our student-athletes. I’m so proud of Hannah as a person and it’s an honor to watch her serve our local community, train so well, and compete at a high level.
