.

WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury Athletics has announced this month's #TeamAU Alumni Feature, presented by KEMI (Kentucky Employers' Mutual Insurance), highlights a former Asbury student-athlete, Justin Jones, class of 2013. Justin was a member of the Asbury men's basketball eam from 2009-2013. Standing at 6-6 and playing at forward and center, Justin saw success as a four-year starter for the Eagles. Throughout his career, Justin collected 900 points, consistently averaging 7.6 per game and helping lead his team to victory throughout the seasons and in the conference tournament.

"Justin was one of my first recruits as the head coach at Asbury. He was a member of teams that improved their record every year and got the championship game of the conference tournament. Justin met his wife Cari (Volleyball) while at Asbury. He is the all time shots blocked leader for men's basketball. Justin averages 7.6 ppg , 8.1 rpg, and 2 bpg during his career at AU."

What were the years of your time at AU?

I attended Asbury from 2009-2013.

What was your major and what sport did you play?

I was a Business Administration major and I played Basketball.

How did God use Asbury to impact your life?

I was able to meet my wonderful wife, Cari (who played on the volleyball team), and we now have 3 precious kids. It prepared me to be a future leader in my family, in my work place, and in my community. It deepened my relationship with Christ and set me on a path to grow more and more in my faith daily.

Coach Shouse had a big impact on my time at Asbury. The time, effort, and energy that he, his family and his staff put into making my teammates and I feel at home away from home was incredible. I have so many memories being at his home with his family and my teammates. That outpouring of love and sacrifice helped prepare my heart to be a foster parent.

What is your favorite Bible verse?
"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." - Galatians 6:9

What is your current occupation?

Vice President of Lending at Bank of Lexington

What is your favorite Asbury athletics memory?

My favorite memory was a Mission Trip to Puerto Rico with my teammates. Women's Basketball Coach Chad Mayes was our guide though his organization. It was a terrific and humbling experience. We were able to visit an orphanage, do community service projects in the community, and play against some local basketball teams.

Why would you encourage anyone to attend Asbury University?

Asbury is a special place. You will be challenged athletically, academically, and spiritually. You will be instructed by professors and coaches who want to see you succeed in all aspects of life. You will be surrounded by a community of peers at different places in their spiritual journey and all have a desire to be more like Jesus.
