Dugle's Three Homers Lead Asbury to 20th Win, Split Day with MUW

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
WILMORE, KY.--- Junior Kaden Dugle homered three times in game one on Thursday afternoon in Wilmore, Ky., to lead Asbury baseball (20-13) over MUW 11-9, but AU dropped game two 7-10 despite outhitting the Owls 12-7.

Dugle finished the day with four RBIs and four runs scored to go with his three home runs that came in consecutive at-bats. Matthew Johnson shined in his return, going 5-7 with four RBIs and three runs scored.

Both teams had explosive offense in each game, combining for 23 hits in game one and 19 in game two for 42 on the day. Asbury produced 12 hits in each game to take them to 20 double-digit hit games on the year.

Game One | ASBURY 11, MUW 9
Senior David Savastio got the start in game one of the series, going 3.0 innings with three punch-outs and four earned runs. Holten Handel came on in the fourth for three innings in his fourth win of the year, tying Brody Bearden for the team-high.

After MUW scored one in the top half it was Asbury exploding for five hits and five runs in the bottom half. Andrew Billington led the inning with a two-run homer over the left field wall, his second of the year.

Kaden Dugle then blasted a two-run shot in the second to give AU a 7-1 lead. MUW used four hits in the third and fourth to score five runs combined, coming within one at 6-7.

The fifth saw two more Asbury home runs, coming from the bat of Matthew Johnson (first of the year) and Kaden Dugle (second in two at-bats), extending the lead to 9-6. Three big runs in the sixth from MUW tied things at 9-9.

One more swing from Kaden Dugle put AU up 11-9 for his third home run in three at-bats. Jack Morris came on in the seventh to get the save to take AU to 20 wins, Morris' second save on the year.

Game Two | ASBURY 7, MUW 10
Freshman Cayden Devine got the game two start, going 4.2 innings with six earned runs, but a career-high seven strikeouts. Cam Crick went 2.1 innings with one earned run and three strikeouts.

A much slower offensive start in game two was led by MUW with a run in the first and third to go up 2-0 after three. AU used triples from Andrew Billington and Ethan Cartwright in the fourth to force a 2-2 tie.

MUW answered with five runs in the fifth off a homer and three singles to go up 7-2. In the fifth, sixth, and seventh AU used six hits to score four runs, getting within one at 6-7.

The Owls scratched three more runs to go up 10-6 heading into the bottom of the ninth. Asbury loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth before grounding into a double-play that shut down the rally.

Asbury dropped game two 7-10 to split the doubleheader, but will look to take the series on Friday afternoon on Senior Day beginning at 12:30 pm.
