Shearer's 22 and Riley's Double-Double Pushes Asbury Past Alice Lloyd for Ticket to National Tournament

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
PIPPA PASSES, Ky.--- Asbury women's basketball (17-10) grabbed their second win in two days in Pippa Passes, Ky., over Alice Lloyd (19-9) in the NCCAA Mideast Regional Tournament and took the title of Regional Champions.

With their win over ALC in a tight 75-71 game, Asbury secured their ticket to the NCCAA National Tournament in Winona Lake, In. This will be the second year in a row that AU will make an appearance in the NCCAA National Tournament.

Junior, Trinity Shearer continued to be one of AU's prominent leaders on the court with 22 points. Shearer had one of her best games today against ALC draining five buckets past the arc (season-high), going 50% in the field, and 83% on the line. Shearer also aided many points for AU, leading with six assists.

Jaclynn Ruble tallied 13 points for Asbury and grabbed eight rebounds. Ruble was able to grab three assists while shooting 100% from the line.

Tiffani Riley recorded her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Riley was a massive force for AU's defense with all 10 of her rebounds being defensive.

Alice Lloyd was led by No. 20 Hannah Kash with an impressive 26 points and eight rebounds.

The first quarter was a tight battle, but AU outscored Alice Lloyd 18-13 to put them up at the end of the first.

ALC began to push more offensively and was able to grab 16 points in the second. AU's offense still held strong, just barely outscoring ALC with 17 points. The second ended with AU still up 35-29.

Both teams were matching each other's intensity and the third was the highest-scoring quarter for both. Two consecutive three's by Tiffani Riley helped AU continue to hold their lead over ALC by grabbing 23 points in the third. Alice Lloyd kept pushing on and grabbed 21, ending the third with Asbury still on top, 58-50.

Despite Alice Lloyd slightly outscoring Asbury in the fourth, 21-17, AU was able to hold onto their win due to strong efforts early in the game. Asbury took the victory, 75-71, and claimed the title of Regional Champs.

With their win over ALC, Asbury moves to 17-10 for the season and will look to prepare for the NCCAA National Tournament.

STORY - QUOTE
"I'm so happy for the ladies! They have worked so hard this season adjusting to new teammates and positions. Their goal from day one was to win this tournament and make it back to the national tournament. They have been so focused all year even in our learning stretches.

We are excited to go back and represent the Mideast region as the champions in the national tournament. It's an honor and we are excited. There are only eight teams left in the country playing at this point for the title of national champion, and we are one of those eight. That's all we wanted was the chance!"
Chad Mayes | Head Coach

"We have been preparing all season for this moment! I really feel like we have been underestimated all season, but that just motivated us. Everyone had an impact on the game, the crowd, coaches, players on the floor, and the players on the bench! We go so hard and practice and push each other to our full potential in order to prepare for games like this! I am so happy that we could pull out a win and bring home the regional title! Now it's time to focus on nationals!"
Trinity Shearer | Junior Guard

"We have been preparing for this moment all season. We started our season out at Alice Lloyd and tonight we accomplished our first goal of cutting down that night! But we are so far from being done! This time we are bringing home a ring and another net! We couldn't accomplish our goals without each player on the team, our coaches, and even the crowd! We got this win tonight because we never played for ourselves, and each girl on our team plays for the girl standing beside her! This is more than basketball… It's a sisterhood! And above all of these things, we have God on our side. We have one more goal, and we will do anything to get there, but no matter what happens, we will give all the glory to God!"
Tiffani Riley | Sophomore Forward
