WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury softball hosted long time opponent Berea College on Saturday afternoon at 12pm and 2pm. The Eagles swept the Mountaineers, run ruling Berea in both games with scores of 11-1 and 19-6.
In game one, the three captains for AU pushed hard offensively to help lead off the Eagles' success, as the team recorded 13 hits with 11 RBI, totalling 11 runs.
Senior
Olivia Palasek went 3-3 at the plate, with one RBI and two runs, as senior
Abigail Fletcher had three RBI, two runs, and one hit.
Junior
Taylor Enlow was a force on the mound and at the plate today, earning five strikeouts and only one ERA from the mound. At the plate, she collected four RBI and three hits.
The second game was even bigger offensively for the Eagles with 12 hits and 17 RBI, to provide 19 runs.
Kyla Bell and
Taylor Enlow both collected five RBI and three hits. Bell recorded three runs while Enlow had two.
Taylor Sanders had two RBI, one hit, and two runs.
Game One:
In game one, Asbury and Berea got their bats flying quickly, each bringing in one run for the inning.
In the bottom of the first,
Kyla Bell singled down the left field line to get on base, and was sent to third off of
Taylor Enlow's double to left field. The Eagles' run was brought in by
Olivia Palasek as she singled to bring home
Kyla Bell.
In the top of the second, the Mountaineers were able to get one runner on base, but AU pitcher
Taylor Enlow shut them down, striking out the next three batters in a row.
The second inning was big for the Eagles offensively,
Abigail Fletcher and
Taylor Enlow to collectively drive in three runs to take the lead 4-1.
Asbury's defense stepped up in the top of the third, keeping the Mountaineers off base.
In the bottom of the third, AU increased their lead to 5-1, with
Marlee Pettit providing a double to left field to bring
Olivia Palasek home.
The fourth inning wrapped up quickly, with both teams going scoreless.
At the top of the fifth, pitcher
Taylor Enlow struck out the first two batters for Berea, with a third out off of a fly out caught by
Olivia Palasek.
The bottom of the fifth sealed the fate of the game for the Eagles, with a run brought in off of a walk after AU loaded the bases.
Abigail Fletcher brought in a run, followed by a walk to tally another..
Next was a double through the left side by
Taylor Enlow to drive in three runs to finish off the game.
The Eagles' offense exploded in game one, run ruling Berea to end the game early, 11-1.
Asbury moved to a 3-12 record going into game two.
Game Two:
The first inning was over quickly, remaining scoreless for both teams.
In the top of the second, Berea worked to take an early lead over the Eagles, 3-0.
The Eagles pushed back hard in the bottom of the second, setting themselves up for success in the second by loading the bases early and bringing home two walks in a row off of the Mountaineers' pitcher.
Kaitlyn Wilson and
Kyla Bell collectively brought in three runs with singles to left field, setting the score to 6-3.
Olivia Judy was able to reach home from third base off of an error.
Taylor Enlow then drove a single up the middle, leading Berea 7-3 going into the third.
AU shut down the Mountaineers' offense in the top of the third, heading into the bottom of the inning that helped secure the win for the Eagles.
In the bottom of the third, Asbury loaded the bases once again, with
Olivia Judy sent home for another run off of a wild pitch.
It was
Kyla Bell and
Taylor Enlow to each double down the line to bring in two runs each, increasing AU's lead to 12-3.
Natalie Ison then doubled to center field to drive in one more, concluding 13-3.
In the top of the fourth, Berea struggled to bring runners home, as AU pitcher
Tori Giurgevich struck out three batters in a row.
The Eagles continued to push in the bottom of the fourth, as
Kyla Bell brought in the fourteenth run of the game with a single to left field.
Next was
Taylor Enlow and
Taylor Sanders to both drill a double to bring home two more runs each, setting the score to 18-3.
The final run of the game for AU was driven in by
KaleyJo Myers to set the score 19-3 going into the top of the fifth.
The Mountaineers answered in the top of the fifth, bringing in three runs with a final effort. However, Berea's push was not enough to stop the Eagles from run ruling them for the second game of the day.
This concluded game two, with the Eagles coming out on top 19-6.
The Eagles now hold a record of 4-12.
