WILMORE, Ky. --- The Asbury women's basketball team hosted Kentucky State University to continue their home stretch. The Eagles put up a late fight against Kentucky State, but could not find a win, and lost 69-55.
Jaclynn Ruble and
Haleigh Releford led the Eagles in Tuesday night's competition, both grabbing 13 points, one steal, and four rebounds. Ruble also recorded three assists.
Jaclynn Ruble finally joined the 1,000-career-point club after banking a three in the fourth minute of the third.
Trinity Shearer led AU's defense against KSU and grabbed six steals and led with six boards. Shearer also followed behind Releford and Ruble with seven points and four assists.
Camryn Preston helped keep the Eagles alive in the early game with eight points, two blocks, and two steals.
Kentucky State pressed hard to start the game and took their lead just a couple of minutes in. Four of the five starters for AU grabbed two points a piece, with
Camryn Preston grabbing three to aid to AU's 11 in the first. KSU outscored the Eagles by nine points and the first ended with them up, 20-11.
The second quarter was not hot for either team, but Kentucky State just barely took the lead over Asbury outscoring them 10-8. The second ended with Kentucky State still on top, 30-19.
AU began to find its drive in the third and pushed past KSU in scoring 16-15.
Trinity Shearer helped lead this charge grabbing four points, two steals, and an assist. Despite this push in the third, Kentucky State still ended the third on top, 35-27.
Kentucky State was led by No. 32 Laurie Thomas, who had an impressive 19 points, seven boards, four assists, and three steals.
Determined to lessen the gap, Asbury went into the fourth with a more intense press.
Haleigh Releford exploded and grabbed nine points for the Eagles with Ruble behind her grabbing eight points, and two clean, consecutive threes. Despite valiant efforts by AU in the late game, KSU outperformed Asbury once again, 24-20 resulting in a win for KSU, 69-55
After their competition on Tuesday, Asbury moves to a 14-10 record.

Asbury will be home next to play their final regular season game on Saturday, February 18th, for Senior day. AU will take on Welch College in a 2 PM tip-off.
