NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. --- The Asbury men's tennis team kicked off their 2023 season by hosting Rhodes College at Top Seed Tennis Club in Nicholasville, Ky. Asbury tennis followed up on their strong fall with a 5-4 win over Rhodes on Friday night to get their spring semester rolling. 

Alejandro Caceres and Gregorio Ingles grabbed an impressive win in their number one doubles match for AU, 8-2. Rhodes grabbed the other two doubles wins over Asbury to put pressure on the Eagles singles matches. 

Asbury's number one singles player Gregorio Ingles grabbed a rather comfortable win over Rhodes to set the tone the rest of the team. Alejandro Caceres took the number three singles match for Asbury over C. Mainella from Rhodes. 

The match came down to two first year Asbury tennis players, Franco Patino and Yousef Ismail. Patino, a freshman for AU and Ismail, an Asbury men's soccer player who is competing for his first season on the tennis team. 

Patino took a strong 6-2, 6-4 win over Rhodes to give AU another singles win. 

Youssef Ismail began his tennis career at Asbury by securing a huge win to help AU take the match, 6-3, 3-6, (11-9) 11-9. 

Asbury starts their 2023 season off 1-0.
