#TeamAU Featured Alumni: Westin Jablonowski | Class of 2019

.

WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury Athletics has announced this month's #TeamAU Alumni Feature, presented by KEMI (Kentucky Employers' Mutual Insurance), highlights a former Asbury student-athlete, Westin Jablonowski, class of 2019. Westin was a member of the Asbury men's tennis team from 2015-2019. Westin was a high-accomplished player who helped raise the level of AU Men's Tennis. Throughout his four-year career as an Eagle, the team won three out of their four conference championships, qualifying them for Nationals in Mobile, Al. within those three years. In 2018, Westin and his partner Shane Mustor made it to the second round of the ITA Regional Tournament. He also played at line three doubles and line six singles throughout his career, including a win at line three doubles against a D1 opponent, and a win against Indiana University East at line six in the 2019 Conference finals.
During his senior year, Westin was named to the River States Conference (RSC) Scholar-Athlete Team list.

"Westin was one of the great competitors of Asbury tennis.  We could count on Westin to give his best and greatest in anything he did at Asbury and that has not changed as he moved into his professional career.  Westin always set his goals as big as his home state of Texas and will chase after them relentless until they are reached.  Westin was always a great balance of knowing how to compete hard, work hard, but also have a lot of fun and just be a genuinely kind person to those around him."

Jarred Miller, Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach

What were the years of your time at AU?

 2015-2019

What was your major and what sport did you play?

Major: Political Science
Sport: Tennis

How did God use Asbury to impact your life?

God utilized Asbury as a way to further my education, find my faith for myself, meet most of my closest friends for life, and meet mentors who directly or indirectly pointed to where my career is today.

What is your favorite Bible verse and why?

Exodus 20:20

"God tests us constantly throughout our lives so we ultimately turn to him during times of need, therefore strengthening our faiths, especially out in the field, court, or pool."

What is your current occupation?

A staffer in the U.S. Senate.

What is your favorite Asbury athletics memory?

Our overall time as a team at the 2019 NAIA National Tournament in Mobile, AL.

Why would you encourage anyone to attend Asbury University?

I would encourage people to attend because of the ability to be academically successful. The curriculum, especially theologically, is tough but there aren't many big distractions on campus to take you away from studying. Coaches in sports motivate you on making solid grades. In addition, professors are likeable and personal. They want you to succeed on your academic journey. I wasn't very good at school, but because of the help I received with the ability to study with hardly any distractions, I made it out better than I started.
