Stout Defense Leads Asbury to Road Victory at Covenant, 52-44


STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.--- A stout defensive performance and balanced scoring attack helped lead Asbury (5-4) past Covenant College (2-5) on Saturday night, 52-44. The win takes the Eagles back to over .500 at a 5-4 record.         
STORY - TOP PERFORMERS
* Spencer Harvey scored nine points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out three assists
* Morgan Flannery added nine points, five rebounds, and two steals
* Bre Jones scored seven points and added six rebounds off the bench
* Haleigh Releford put in six points, grabbed six rebounds, and tallied three steals 
* Covenant's Lucy Benson led the Scots with 14 points, six rebounds, and three assists

* This was the third time in the last three seasons the schools have met, AU leads the series 3-0
* The two schools will be conference opponents starting next year (CCS)
* This was the second game in two nights for both teams

* Asbury shot 28% from the field on the night and 22% from three
* AU scored 15 points off turnover and collected 20 points in the paint
* The Asbury defense held Covenant to just 28% from the field and 27% from three
* The Scots claimed 12 points in the paint and two points off AU turnovers
* AU only turned the ball over 10 times on the day to Covenant's 24
* The Eagles were able to snag 14 steals
* Asbury surrendered only 13 first half points, the lowest in a half on the season 
* Ma'Kiya West capped off a 9-0 run with 4:41 left in the second to take a 16-5 lead
* A buzzer beating three from Spencer Harvey took the AU lead to 27-14 going into the half 
* Covenant was able to outscore AU 13-8 and cut the lead to nine heading into the fourth quarter
* Two three's from freshman Juleigh Anne Tucker and a jumper from Bre Jones helped push the lead back to 18, (48-30) with 3:59 left
* Despite a 14-4 run to end the game, the Eagles were able to hold off the Scots to claim a 52-44 road victory
