LANSING, Mi. --- Asbury women's soccer (2-9-4) traveled to Great Lakes Christian College (6-5-1) in Lansing, Mi., on Thursdsay afternoon. In a competitive, hard-fought match, the Eagles came away with a win, 2-1.
Reese Bolton and
Mary Tidei both scored goals for AU in the match.
Deidra Long,
Caroline Absher,
Anna Sparks, and
Maggie Higdon all added shots on goal in the win.
Violette Moore and
Maliya Crump each got 45 minutes in goal tonight for the Eagles. The two combined for two saves and only one goal in the combined win.
In the 11th minute it was
Reese Bolton striking first for AU with a nice shot off the right foot for a goal. The goal gave the Eagles an early 1-0 lead.
Great Lakes Christian did not take time and got on the board with their own goal in the 17th minute to equalize things at one a piece.
Reese Bolton kept her play up in the 18th minute with a shot on goal attempt that was saved by Crusaders.
Deidra Long and
Anna Sparks added their own shot attempts in the 22nd and 27th minutes that flew wide and kept the score at 1-1.
Maggie Higdon and
Grace Mattingly each poured in shot attempts towards the end of the first half but could not find back net and the score remained even going into the half. AU played very well defensively only allowing three shot attempts and just one first half goal.
AU came out of the second half with fire landing two shot on goal attempts from
Maggie Higdon and
Deidra Long, being saved by the Crusaders keeper.
Maliya Crump began the second half and goal and saved two tremendous shots in the 48th and 52nd minute.
Caroline Absher and
Deidra Long put two more shots on goal in the 62nd and 63rd minutes that were saved by Great Lakes and it kept the score at 1-1.
In the 72nd minute AU broke through and scored the game winning goal off the foot of
Mary Tidei. Tidei has now scored goals in back to back games for the Eagles.
The AU defense stood firm after Tidei's goal and secured the victory over Great Lakes Christian, 2-1.
Asbury will finish their season on Wednesday when they travel to Midway, Ky., to take on Midway University at 1 PM.
