Olivia Palasek – Softball | Sr. | Covington, Ky.
What is your major?
Political Science- American Politics
Why did you choose Asbury?
I took a risk to transfer without knowing anything about Asbury. AU promised the opportunity to play softball and get my degree in Political Science which was good enough for me. However, what I did not expect was to find a place that feels like home around so many amazing athletes and individuals who welcomed me in.
Career Aspirations:
Coaching Softball at the Collegiate level & Strength and Conditioning Specialist
What Do You Enjoy?:
Cheering on other athletes at AU, lifting weights, and being silly with my teammates
Favorite Bible Verse:
Hebrews 4:15-16
"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."
Favorite Quote:
"Who you are today determines who you will become" -Andy Frisella
What head softball coach Ally Moore has to say about Olivia:
"This is my second year working with OP and I can honestly say that she is one of the most confident and hardworking individuals I've had the pleasure of meeting. OP is a true leader on the field. She gives full effort, encourages her teammates, and knows how to bring great energy. If you see someone dancing in our dugout, chances are it's OP! OP is a true asset to our team. With her drive and determination, OP not only shines on the field but in the classroom as well. Asbury is lucky to have her."
Yuri Tirado– Men's Tennis | Jr. | La Paz, Bolivia
What is your major?
My major is Finance, and I have a minor in Marketing and am part of the 4+1 Program
Why did you choose Asbury?
Asbury chose me. I have never visited the school before my first day of classes. I found it to be a beautiful place where I can start to grow personally and professionally. My coach found my tennis video on youtube, he recruited me and he is the one who introduced me to Asbury. I will always be thankful to him and my parents for giving me the opportunity to study in this school.
Career Aspirations:
My plan is to work for an investment bank. I know it is a very competitive and professional environment, but I am willing to put a lot of work and dedication into it in order to accomplish this objective. After that I would like to create or work for a company that focuses on helping new start-ups to get on their feet and also help families who are struggling.
What Do You Enjoy?:
I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I started developing the habit of reading and I am actually enjoying it. There is nothing better than a good, deep conversation with someon. It is amazing how much you can find out about people and their real thoughts and beliefs. I love to listen and learn from other people's experiences and stories. Helping is one of the things that brings me joy and is natural. It doesn't seem like it but I always had this "care about people" personality; positive actions, positive vibes, brings positive things in life.
Favorite Bible Verse:
Joshua 1: 9
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
What men's and women's tennis head coach Jarred Miller has to say about Yuri:
"Yuri is one of the hardest workers and grinders I know. He puts everything he has into everything that he does, whether it is on the court or off of it. The qualities that he has demonstrated here as a student and an athlete will serve him well in life as he graduates in May and seeks his next steps working in Finance. He serves currently as one of our captains as well as working as an ambassador over the summer in the Asbury admissions office are several ways he has demonstrated his leadership capabilities during his time here at Asbury University."
