MIDWAY, Ky. --- Today's gameday matchup preview is below:
Asbury at Midway | 1/18/23 | 7 PM | Midway, Ky.
Asbury men's basketball (13-4) will visit Midway University (10-7) on Wednesday night for a rematch of the teams matchup on November 21, when Nick Fort lifted Asbury over Midway with a jumpshot in the closing seconds, 69-68.
The two programs have met 13 times overall since 2017, Asbury leading the way with ten wins. AU has defeated Midway in their past two meeting, November 21st of this season and February 2nd from last season. The teams are very familiar with one another after being conference foes from 2017 to 2021, and with the short 40 minute travel that sepaerates the two.
Asbury is eager to get back on the court and slipping on Saturday on their home court to Simmons College of Kentucky. The Eagles were ranked number six in the NCCAA Coaches Poll on Tuesday afternoon after previously being ranked fifth.
The AU offense struggled to find its stride in Saturday's game against Simmons, scoring their lowest point total of the year at 61. The Eagles still average 83.5 points per game are making an impressive 9.8 three-pointers per game. Asbury will be hungry to get back in the win column with a strong road test at Midway before they take a week long break.
Midway is led in scoring by junior guard Donnie Miller, averaging 19.4 points point per game while no other Midway player averages double-digits. Midway is 10-7 overall but have been strong in conference play, sitting at 6-3. The Eagles from Midway are 3-3 on their home court this season.
