Eagles Split Doubleheader With Trine And Win The Series

WILMORE, Ky. --- Asbury and Trine matched up in day two of the series with a doubleheader lined up after AU defeated Trine in game one. AU put together a solid performance in game one of the doubleheader holding Trine to only 1 run, taking the victory 5-1. In game two of the day the AU offense couldn't ever get it going as they would be the ones held to 1 run. The Eagle pitching staff was incredible in this game as well, but the AU defense committed multiple errors that would lead to allowing Trine 3 runs, which was enough to give AU the loss, 3-1.

The highlight of game one for Asbury was their starting pitcher, Alec Lush, going six complete innings allowing no runs, and a dominant 8 strikeouts. Lush handed the ball off to Tanner McKee in the top of the 7th to get 3 outs for the Eagles, allowing only 1 run and striking out 2. Noah Brown would then move from second base to the mound as he would get the final 6 outs of the game and record his first save of the season. The AU offense manufactured a run in the 2nd and a run in the 3rd off RBIs by Colton Perkins and Kaiden Zacharias. The AU lead was stretched out in the 5th by the captain Matthew Baker driving in 2 runs on his 2 out pinch hit single that extended the lead to 4-0 AU. The Eagles held their lead throughout winning the game 5-1, and took a 2-0 lead in the series.

Jackson Cole got the ball for AU in the final game of the series and put together another stellar start. Cole would go 6 complete innings in the game allowing only 1 earned run, striking out 4 Trine hitters. In Cole's two starts this season he has went 6 innings in each, giving up only 3 combined earned runs in the total 12 innings. Cole and the AU bullpen only allowed 3 runs to Trine but the AU offense could only score 1 off of the two Trine pitchers, Keele and Brettin. The Eagles threatened in the bottom of the 8th with runners at second and third, but could not come through as Trine would get out of the inning allowing no runs. Trine held on to complete the victory over Asbury, 3-1.
