AU Offense Explodes Behind Paris' 5 Hits To Defeat Berea



BEREA, Ky. --- The Asbury baseball team traveled to Berea, Ky on Sunday afternoon to match up with Berea College. Asbury was coming off of an 11 inning win the day before and were looking to keep the winning momentum going. Alec Lush led the charge for the Eagles receiving his second start of the season after his dominant outing against Thomas University. 

AU jumped out early getting their first 3 hitters on base which would end up in 2 runs scored in the top of the 1st. However, the middle of the lineup for Berea would respond in the bottom of the 1st going triple, double, double to score 2 runs and tie the game. This middle of the lineup would strike again for Berea in the 3rd with a homerun, 2 doubles and a single to take the lead over AU, 5-2. 

It was a heart check moment for AU as their starter Alec Lush went 3 innings but was now coming out of the game with his team behind 5-2. Lush struck out 5 in only 3 innings but would hand it off to the AU bullpen. From this point on Berea would only score 2 more runs in the entire game, finishing with 7 runs. The Eagle bullpen was right on que coming in one after another getting outs and passing the ball to the next guy.

This Eagle team responded to the test as they would score 3 in the top of the 4th on a 2 out rally to tie the game up 5-5 (4 hits in the inning, triple from Lush and double from Paris). From this point on AU would outscore Berea 16-2 in the last 4 innings of the game. The Eagles kept providing quality at bats to keep the offensive line moving each inning as they score 16 in 4 innings. On the defensive side Asbury played all 9 innings with no errors, and only allowed 2 runs in the final 6 innings behind 5 different bullpen arms. AU moves to 3-2 as they beat Berea, 21-7. 



* Walker Paris had an incredible day at the plate going 5-6 with 6 runs scored, 2 doubles, 2 RBIs and a stolen base. This caps a dominant week for Paris as he hit .700 for the week going 7 for 10 with 3 doubles, 7 runs scored, 4 RBIs, and was on base for Asbury 9 out of 14 plate appearances (.643 OBP).  Paris also went 6 innings on Saturday giving up only 2 runs and striking out 5 to help AU get the win over Grove City

* Kaiden Zacharias had a day going 3-3 with 3 runs scored, a double and 2 walks

* Noah Brown provided AU with 2 hits, an RBI and a walk from the plate. He also gave AU a scoreless inning of work out of the bullpen

* Nathaniel Frank and Parker Burge both had 2 hits a piece and 9 RBI between the two (Frank - 5 RBI, Burge - 4 RBI)

* All 5 pitchers out of the bullpen for Asbury were key (Nate McClellan, Noah Brown, Josh Head, Cam Crick, and David Sevastio)

AU was clicking on offense recording an impressive 20 hits on the day 

* The AU bullpen only allowed 2 runs in 6 innings of work

* Walker Paris collected 5 hits on the day and scored 6 runs for AU

Asbury will look to keep their play going as they host their first home game of the season on Wednesday against Oakland City.
