Women's Basketball Edged On the Road in Double-Overtime

STORY - THE ESSENTIALS
PIPPA PASSES, Ky. --- The Asbury Women's Basketball team tipped off their 2022 season on the road this evening against Alice Lloyd College. Asbury and ALC battled closely all game, going into double-overtime where ALC managed to come out on top 68-65.

AU opened their season strong and grabbed a quick lead against ALC in the first period. Junior, Kayla Harlow aided the Eagles in their strong defensive lead being a wall under the rim. Harlow led the first quarter with four points scored, as well as Haleigh Releford and Jaclynn Ruble both recording points in the low scoring first quarter. AU ended the quarter tied 9-9 with ALC.

AU's offense continued to dominate the remainder of the first half, and finished the second quarter up 19-17.

The Eagles and ALC continued to fight back and forth for the lead over one another in the third quarter. AU's highest scoring quarter of the game came from the third. Trinity Shearer racked two 3 PT's as well as two FT's for the quarter. Emma Strunk went 5-5 for FT's in the quarter and aided AU in their 21 points of the third quarter.

The close game continued throughout and needed extra time to finish the contest. The teams ended the regulation tied 55-55, heading into overtime. STORY - QUOTE
"Tough loss tonight, but hopefully we learn from it. ALC played very well and their maturity was the strength. We shot the ball very poorly tonight and that's been our biggest struggle this season as we've been preparing. Typically that's the strongest part of our game. We will get it worked out because these ladies don't accept losing. We have a hard game Saturday, so we have to figure it out quickly."

The Eagles will be traveling to Grace College this Saturday for their next game. This will be their second game of their 5 away game stretch to begin their season.
