OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Asbury University baseball team won its ninth straight game on Thursday with a 19-0 shutout over River States Conference opponent Brescia on the road in seven innings.
With the victory, AU is now 32-9 on the year and is 17-5 in league play. The Eagles will conclude the series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at noon CST.
Asbury finished with 17 hits in the victory, as
Colton Back led the way with a perfect 4-4 performance at the plate. Back scored four runs on the day with a double and a stolen base.
Will McDonald got the win on the bump as he pitched another complete game while allowing only three hits and striking out five.
The Eagles opened things up with three runs in the first as Back brought home
Trevor Campbell off a single to left-center.
CJ Compton's two-RBI single moments later would score
Paul Haupt and back for the 3-0 lead.
AU poured it on in the second frame with eight runs on seven hits to take a dominating 11-0 advantage.
Asbury would add two additional runs in the third and five in the fourth to lead 18-0.
Matthew Johnson scored the final run of the game off a passed ball in the sixth.
Compton, Campbell,
Paul Haupt,
Austin Dick, and
Matthew Baker all finished with two hits apiece to record a multi-hit game.
Compton recorded a team-best four RBI and Baker finished with three.
As a team, the Eagles hit six doubles and stole four bases.
