WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University baseball team got back to its winning ways on Tuesday with a 10-9 victory over UC Clermont at Cecil Zweifel Field in Wilmore.
The Eagles improve to 21-7 on the season and end their four-game losing skid.
Asbury got ahead early with four runs in the bottom of the first.
After three consecutive hits, Paul Haupt was hit by a pitch to bring in the first run of the day. Walker Paris the connected on a two-RBI single to center to make it 3-0 Asbury moments later.
Matt Johnson's RBI single to left scored Haupt for the final run of the inning.
The Eagles continued to pour it on with three additional runs in the third inning.
Colton Back hit his second homer of the season to begin the inning as Gabe Lawrence posted an RBI double and Austin Dick hit an RBI single to push the lead up to 7-0.
Leading 8-0, the Eagles were in control, but UC Clermont would score nine runs in the top of the sixth with a three-run HR and a grand slam in the half inning.
Asbury would respond with a run off an infield single from Matt Johnson to tie the game at 9-9.
Garret McIntire would put the Eagles back on top in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI double to left, which scored Dalton Nunley for the winning run.
Austin Dick and Matt Johnson both finished with three hits at the plate and combined for four RBI.
Paris, Back, McIntire, and Burge all registered multi-hit games with two hits apiece. In total, AU collected 17 hits in the victory.
Asbury returns to action on Friday as they host Rio Grande in River States Conference play.
