Eagles Fall Short 71-70 in RSC Championship Quarterfinals

WILMORE, Ky. – The Asbury University men's basketball team was edged 71-70 at home to Point Park on Wednesday evening in the River States Conference Championship quarterfinals.

Asbury led 70-64 with two minutes to play, but PPU would end the game on a 7-0 run. Point Park hit the game-winning free throw with 1.8 remaining.

Key Stats
*Eric Powell led the Eagles in scoring with 19 points on 7-9 shooting. Powell was also a perfect 4-4 from three-point territory.
*Nick Fort recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
*Dakota Walden added 14 points off the bench and was 7-7 from the field.
*Leander Ridgeway tabbed seven points, and Siah Holifield and Jamiel Goliday both scored six each.
*AU shot 50 percent from the field and were 7-16 from long range. However, the Eagles struggled at the foul line and were only 9-16 throughout the game.
*Asbury added 34 points in the paint and scored 17 points off turnovers in the loss.

Highlights
*Point Park led for the final 12 minutes of the first half and took a 36-29 lead heading into halftime.
*Asbury regrouped and came out with a great effort in the final 20 minutes of action. The Eagles began the second half on a 16-4 run and took a 45-40 lead following a three-point play from Jamiel Goliday.
*Asbury's largest lead of the night came after a long three-point field goal from Nick Fort, which extended the lead out to 59-52.
*Ridgeway converted on a three-point play with 2:52 to play to extend the lead out to six at 70-64, but the Eagles were unable to score the rest of the game.
*Asbury concludes the 2020-21 season with a record of 15-6.
