Box Score CHICAGO, ILL. - Asbury men's basketball took to the road Thursday afternoon, thinking they would be competing against Division III SLIAC foe Fontbonne University on Friday at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. But a last minute COVID decision saw a switch in opponent. Instead, the Eagles would take on Finlandia University.
Earning their first win of the season, Asbury defeated Finlandia 85-71.
The Eagles would clear its bench by the end of the game, allowing all 13 players the opportunity to see time on the court.
Asbury was led in scoring by Nick Fort who poured in 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Eric Powell, Dakota Walden and John Shoulders (appearing in his first game on the young season, returning from an injury) would each score 11 points apiece.
Freshman Clayton Winter would continue his rebounding prowess, grabbing 9 boards and scoring 10 points.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Nick Fort would score 20 or more points in a game for the third time this season, netting 22
- John Shoulders had a huge impact in his first game returning from an injury, sparking a slow start at the beginning of play and ending the game with 11 points
- Freshman point guard Kaleb Givens scored his first college points, scoring 4 points total
