Softball Sweeps Johnson, Improve to 8-6

WILMORE, Ky.—The Asbury University softball team swept its Saturday doubleheader with Johnson University at home, winning game one 11-0 and game two 9-1.

Asbury improves to 8-6 on the year with the victories and also moves to 6-4 in home games this season.

Game one
*AU took an early lead after one inning of play following an RBI single from Deana Phillips, which scored Paige Hill.
*Asbury had a huge second inning and scored 10 runs on eight hits to take a commanding 11-0 lead.
*The Eagles batted around before Johnson even recorded the first out in the inning.
*Chandler Kelly's three run homer to left highlighted the big inning for the Eagle offense.
*Paige Hill pitched a fantastic game in the circle, earning the win as she struck out nine and limited JU to only one hit.
*Phillips and Bree Sanders both finished 2-3 with three RBI.
*Maddie Burke also recorded her eighth multi-hit game of the season with two hits.

Game two
*The Eagles didn't let their foot off the gas and had another strong outing in game two.
*AU had another big second inning offensively and scored six runs on three hits. Maddie Burke's grand slam pushed the lead out to 6-1.
*Asbury shutout Johnson in the final five innings and recorded three runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the victory.
*Caitlyn Taylor's triple to right and Bree Sanders' infield single moments later ended the game at 9-1.
*Deana Phillips got the win tossing four innings of work. The senior struck out three and allowed only two hits.
*Mara Goodwin pitched the two innings of relief and struck out three batters and did not allow a hit.
*For the day, the Eagles' pitching allowed no earned runs and struck out 15.
*Sanders was perfect at the plate with a 3-3 performance, while Bethany Marcum also added two hits.

Next Up
Asbury is back in play at Georgetown for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
