Women's Hoops Falls in Season Opener at Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Asbury University women's basketball team dropped their season opener at Cumberlands on Thursday evening by a score of 95-67.

It was a tough night for the Eagles, who were unable to bounce back from a first quarter double-digit deficit.

Highlights
*The Eagles fell behind after a slow start in the opening period where they were outscored 24-10.
*Cumberlands dominated the glass on both ends as they posted 53 total rebounds, while AU was limited to only 23.
*Asbury played well in the second period and outscored the Patriots by a 21-19 margin. AU cut a 19-point deficit down to 12 at 43-31 at halftime.
*However, UC came out strong in the third frame and recorded 28 points in the quarter to extend their lead out to 21 points heading into the final quarter of action.

Key Stats
*Zaria Napier led AU in scoring with 19 points on 6-13 shooting. Napier was on the floor for essentially the entire game, logging 39 minutes of action.
*Also reaching double figures scoring were Sarah King and Trinity Shearer who each finished with 11 points apiece.
*Asbury shot 36 percent from the field in the loss and were 42 percent from long rand (8-19). Additionally, AU finished the game shooting 72 percent from the foul line.
*The Eagles finished the game with 17 points scored off turnovers and posted nine steals as a team.

Asbury is back in play on Tuesday at home against No. 7 Southeastern. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 PM.
