Women's Soccer Falls Short at Thomas More

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. -- The Asbury University women's soccer team fell 1-0 at Thomas More University on Monday evening in non-conference action. Monday's match was the final non-conference game for AU in the regular season.

The Eagles will open up River States Conference play this week on Thursday at West Virginia Tech at 5:30 PM.

AU faced a quick spurt of shot attempts from the Saints in the opening minutes of the contest, but were able to hold off TMU momentarily.

However, on Thomas More's 7th shot attempt, the Saints found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.

One goal is all that would be needed to decided Monday's contest, as Asbury was held to only one shot in the match.

The Eagles' lone shot attempt came from Elizabeth Sparks, but it landed wide in the 39th minute.

In the closing minutes of the half, Asbury had a couple of opportunities on corner kicks to try and even the score but were unable to capitalize.

TMU recorded 10 more shots in the second half as the Eagles spent a majority of the half fighting off shot attempts from the Saints and trying to control possession of the ball. Thomas More finished with 21 shots for the match, but only had seven land on-goal.

The Eagles were able to make a late push in the final five minutes as they got downfield multiple times, but were unable to fire off a shot.

Carley Pyles tabbed six saves at goalie in the loss.
