CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Asbury University men's basketball team fell 87-67 at Thomas More University on Monday evening in non-conference play.
AU drops to 6-10 overall on the year with the loss.
Asbury had trouble slowing down Keegan Saben of TMU, who posted 33 points and shot 14-15 from the foul line.
The Eagles also struggled to rebound, as Thomas More controlled the glass 39-17. The Saints also shot 63 percent from the field on Monday.
Asbury kept pace early on with the 12-1 Saints by shooting 8-16 from the floor. Their solid play kept it a one-possession game at 24-22 following a three-point shot from
Caleb Bonny halfway through the period.
Thomas More would extend the lead out to 12 at 36-24 with a 12-2 run moments later.
The Saints would continue to stay hot offensively as they took a commanding 50-29 lead heading into halftime.
TMU shot 72 percent from the field and were 50 percent from long range in the first 20 minutes of play.
In the second half, AU shot the ball much better and out-scored the Saints in the half 38-37.
The Eagles chipped away at the lead, and even cut the 21-point deficit down to single digits at 67-58 with six minutes remaining.
However, Thomas More quickly extended their lead back to double figures and out-scored AU 20-9 in the final six minutes of action.
Asbury shot 39 percent from the field and were 9-26 from three-point territory. The Eagles also only committed five turnovers in the loss.
Leading Asbury in scoring was senior
Desmond Duke, who compiled 17 points and four assists.
Eric Powell posted 13 points and
Siah Holifield tallied 12. Rounding out the double figures scorers was
Jamiel Goliday, who finished the contest with 10 points.
Leander Ridgeway collected six points and
Caleb Bonny chipped in with five.
AU is back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Richmond, Ind. for a road contest against IU East.
