PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Asbury University volleyball team put forth another great effort on Saturday afternoon at Point Park University in the River States Conference Championship tournament. However, the Eagles fell in five sets to eventual RSC Champion IU Kokomo.

The Cougars were victorious 21-25, 25-22, 15-25, 25-9, 16-14.

Asbury got off to a fantastic start after taking the opening set 25-21. Kokomo responded with a quality effort on their end in the second game to even up the match at one set apiece.

AU got their momentum and rhythm back in-sync with solid play in the third frame. Asbury won the set handily at 25-15 and produced 14 kills in the set.

The Eagles finished with 52 kills throughout the match but were only able to collect 11 kills combined in the fourth and fifth sets.

IU Kokomo dominated the fourth set after building a 12-2 advantage. Asbury posted a -0.120 hitting percentage in the set as things just did not go their way.

AU regrouped in the fifth and final set and had IUK on the ropes. After leading 11-9, the Eagles won the next three points, including a huge kill from Julia Thompson to take a 14-9 lead. However, IU Kokomo made one final rally and won the last seven points to win the set 16-14 to take the match.

Asbury also finished the match with 12 blocks and .161 hitting percentage.

AU concludes the 2019 season with a 13-16 record.
